China's Semi-trailer Exports Maintain High Growth: Surpassing 40,000 Units in 2024, Accelerating High-end Transformation in 2025

China's semi-trailer (including semi-trailer) export market delivered a brilliant performance in 2024, with exports reaching 40,487 units, a year-on-year increase of 27.21% from 2023. This milestone signifies the continuous enhancement of the international competitiveness of Chinese semi-trailer products. The growth stems from the superposition of multiple favorable factors: booming demand for infrastructure construction in countries along the Belt and Road, gradual improvement of logistics systems in developing nations, and the comprehensive advantages of Chinese manufacturing in cost control, production efficiency, and quality stability, which have enabled Chinese semi-trailers to form differentiated competitiveness in the global market.

In terms of regional layout, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and Central Asia have emerged as core growth markets. Chinese semi-trailers have gained widespread recognition for their cost-effectiveness and fast delivery cycles. Meanwhile, the market structure has continuously optimized: Vietnam jumped to become the second-largest export destination with an 86.61% growth rate, and order volumes in emerging markets such as Tanzania and Nigeria surged by over 120% year-on-year. Currently, Chinese semi-trailers are sold to 132 countries and regions, expanding the global market footprint. In response to diverse demand across markets, enterprises are targeting precisely: cost-effective models for price-sensitive markets in Southeast Asia and Africa, and high-end products complying with standards such as ECE R13 and DOT for European and American markets with stringent environmental and safety requirements.

Product upgrading has become the core driver of export growth. Guided by domestic policies, the Ministry of Transport has continuously promoted the standardization, lightweighting, and green transformation of freight vehicles, encouraging enterprises to increase R&D investment. Next-generation semi-trailers integrated with air suspension, lightweight aluminum alloy materials, and low-drag design have gradually become mainstream. The trends of intelligence and new energy matching are particularly prominent: refrigerated semi-trailers equipped with temperature and humidity sensors and GPS positioning have secured large orders in Australia's fresh food transportation market; electric semi-trailers with 800V high-voltage platforms have obtained EU WVTA certification; and modular-designed special semi-trailers have become standard equipment for infrastructure projects in Africa. This trend has further continued in 2025: in the first five months, China's medium-duty truck exports reached 26,000 units, a year-on-year increase of 30%. As the core traction power unit for semi-trailers, the growth in their exports indirectly confirms the simultaneous expansion of supporting demand for semi-trailers.

Leading enterprises have achieved remarkable results in global layout. CIMC Vehicles, a world-leading semi-trailer manufacturer, recorded 14.95 billion yuan in revenue from its global semi-trailer business in 2024, with overseas markets contributing over 55% of the total. Meanwhile, domestic sales still achieved a 12% year-on-year growth, forming a dual-drive pattern of domestic demand and export sales. Enterprises have improved overseas customer acquisition efficiency through digital tools such as multilingual independent websites and 3D model display systems. CIMC Vehicles, in particular, achieved a 217% growth in natural traffic in the Russian market by optimizing Russian long-tail keywords, continuously enhancing local operational capabilities.

Looking ahead, with the deepening implementation of the RCEP regional trade agreement, the accelerated layout of Chinese automakers' overseas production bases, and the upgraded demand for e-commerce and cold chain transportation driven by the recovery of the global logistics industry, the export potential of semi-trailers will be further released. Despite facing technical barriers and competitive challenges in some markets, under the development direction of intelligence, low-carbonization, and specialization, China's semi-trailer exports are expected to achieve greater breakthroughs in the high-end track.
