What is the difference between a gooseneck semi-trailer and a straight beam semi-trailer?

The main difference between a Gooseneck semi-trailer and a straight beam semi-trailer lies in their girder construction and loading space flexibility.

 

A straight beam semi-trailer, also known as a "straight plate" semi-trailer, features a girder structure that forms a straight line. This simple and clear design makes it easy to manufacture and maintain. Because of its straightforward design, the cost is relatively low, making it a common choice for logistics transportation. A straight beam semi-trailer is suitable for transporting a variety of goods, especially when loading space requirements are not particularly high, as it provides good transport efficiency.

 

In contrast, a Gooseneck semi-trailer has a "Z"-shaped girder structure, which is why it is also known as a "high and low plate" semi-trailer. This design creates a height difference between the base plate and the gooseneck, typically around 200 mm. This structure allows for more loading space and greater flexibility in terms of cargo height. Additionally, the lower center of gravity of the cargo makes the gooseneck semi-trailer more stable during driving, enhancing safety.

 

Therefore, the straight beam semi-trailer is simple and cost-effective, suitable for scenarios with low loading space requirements. In contrast, the gooseneck semi-trailer, with its unique "Z" structure, offers greater flexibility in loading space and improved driving stability, making it ideal for transportation scenarios requiring greater cargo loading flexibility.
