(I) Mainstream Product Classification and Application Scenarios
Based on the connection method with the tractor and functional characteristics, trailers can be divided into three core categories, each accurately matching different transportation needs:
1. Semi-trailers: With axles at the rear, part of their weight is borne by the tractor, making them the main force for long-distance road transportation. Common sub-types include:
◦ Container semi-trailers: Designed specifically for standard containers, suitable for standardized transportation scenarios such as ports and cross-border logistics;
◦ Tank semi-trailers: Used for transporting liquids, gases and granular materials, such as chemical raw materials and bulk cement;
◦ Refrigerated semi-trailers: Equipped with precise temperature control systems to provide a constant-temperature transportation environment for frozen foods and pharmaceutical products;
◦ Low-bed semi-trailers: Adopt a low-center-of-gravity design, focusing on the transportation of non-disassemblable oversize cargo (such as construction machinery and heavy equipment).
2. Full trailers: Bear all their weight independently and can stand on their own, mostly used for short-distance transfer. Stake-type full trailers are suitable for loading and unloading bulk cargo; box-type full trailers can protect cargo from external influences; and livestock transport trailers ensure the safety of live cargo transportation through dedicated space design.
3. Center-axle trailers: Axles are located at the center of the cargo compartment's gravity, relying on the tractor for support. They are commonly used in scenarios such as vehicle transportation and dedicated-line distribution, among which center-axle car carriers are widely applied in the vehicle logistics field.
(II) Key Technologies and Manufacturing Core
1. Core technology directions: The industry's R&D focuses on three major areas - in terms of intelligence, improving operational efficiency and safety through systems such as GPS positioning, intelligent dispatching and collision avoidance early warning; in the field of lightweighting, using new materials like high-strength steel and aluminum alloy to reduce self-weight and achieve fuel saving and efficiency enhancement; modular design simplifies production and maintenance processes and improves adaptation flexibility.
2. Key manufacturing process points: From components to finished vehicles, multiple precision processes are required, including one-time stamping forming of steel plates to ensure structural strength, quenching of key components to enhance hardness, intelligent welding to improve precision, electrophoretic painting to enhance corrosion resistance, etc. Each process requires strict quality inspection to ensure safety performance. The quality of core components such as electronic control systems, axles and braking devices directly determines the reliability and service life of trailers.
(III) Industry Development Trends and Market Pattern
1. Market scale expansion: Benefiting from the improvement of logistics infrastructure and the development of e-commerce, the scale of China's trailer market was approximately 80 billion yuan in 2024, and is expected to exceed 120 billion yuan by 2030, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 8.2%. Among them, the growth rate of special-purpose trailers for refrigerated transportation and hazardous chemical transportation is remarkable, with CAGRs of 12% and 15% respectively.
2. New energy and environmental protection transformation: Driven by policies, new energy trailers have become the main growth driver, with an output of 50,000 units in 2024 and an expected market share of 50% by 2030. The full implementation of the National VI emission standard has accelerated the upgrading of traditional fuel-powered trailers and promoted the green transformation of the industry.
3. Internationalization and intelligent upgrading: The export volume of China's trailers continues to grow, with 80,000 units exported in 2024, mainly to regions such as Russia and Southeast Asia, with significant cost-performance advantages. At the same time, intelligent trailers are rapidly popularized, with a market scale of 25 billion yuan in 2024. It is expected to exceed the scale of 1 million units by 2030, accounting for 30% of the market share.
